Undergraduate Research in Marine Sciences – Maryland Sea Grant REULocation: Maryland

Description: THIS SUMMER, Maryland Sea Grant will offer fifteen under ‐ graduates the opportunity to conduct marine research on the Chesapeake Bay — the program is especially designed for stu‐ dents majoring in such fields as biology, chemistry, ecology, physics, engineering , mathematics, and marine and environmental science. During this 12‐week program (May 22‐August 14), each student will work with a science mentor on an individual research project at one of two marine labs located on Chesapeake Bay: the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s* (UMCES) Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Maryland, or its Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge, Maryland. Research areas include: • climate change • estuarine processes • molecular biology and genetics • benthic environment • environmental chemistry • physical oceanography • submerged aquatic vegetation • contaminants • modeling and analysis • fisheries • coastal observing systems The Maryland Sea Grant Program, with support from the National Science Foundation, will provide each fellow with a stipend of $6,000, housing costs and round‐trip travel expenses.
