Description: The Initiative to Maximize Student Development (IMSD) program at Washington University in St. Louis is designed to provide a community for under represented students who enter one of our 12 Ph.D. programs in the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences (DBBS) (dbbs.wustl.edu). Since 2013, IMSD, an NIH funded program, has been apart of the graduate training of more than25 students and the larger DBBS student community. We engage IMSD scholars through a pre-matriculation boot camp, individual advisement, group meetings, career seminars, subject specific help sessions and many otheractivities. Our goal is to help students become successful scientists and to champion their efforts to get there. All incoming students from under represented backgrounds are invited to participate in IMSD and participate in all activities, whether as full scholars (stipend and conference funds provided by IMSD) or associate scholars (conference funds provided by IMSD).
