Description: Amgen Scholars is hosted at 10 premier institutions within the United States: California Institute of Technology, Columbia University / Barnard College, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National Institutes of Health, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, San Francisco, Washington University in St. Louis. Each host institution has its own application process and you can apply to participate at as many host institutions as you are interested in. The application close date is February 2, 2015 (February 14 for the California Institute of Technology). Students will have the opportunity to take part in important institution research projects, gain hands-on lab experience and contribute to the advancement of science; also you will participate in scientific seminars, workshops and other networking events. Research topics varies from biochemistry to bioengineering, bioinformatics, biopsychology, biotechnology, chemical and biomolecular engineering, chemistry, immunology, medical pharmacology, microbiology, molecular cell and developmental biology, molecular genetics, molecular medicine, molecular pharmacology, neurobiology, neuroscience, pathology, physiological psychology, statistics and toxicology. A signature component of the summer program is the U.S. symposium held in California where students have the opportunity to discuss their research and network with other Amgen Scholars from across the nation. To apply you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above; and an interest in pursuing a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. You will receive financial support, but the amount will vary depending on the institution.
